Six consultants who saw a need for an independent referral system for high-quality surgeons have launched a new website to help match specialists to patients.
Mr Gerald Hackett, one of the team of specialists from Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, explained : 'I often get phone calls from friends and family saying:"I've got this problem. Whom do you recommend that I see?" We feel the public should have access to the same sort of information that we can give our friends and family.'
SelectmySurgeon.com has a searchable database that allows patients to find the right surgeon for their needs and also to see references from other patients.
Surgeons can sign up free of charge to include their contact details and areas of expertise. More detail, including patient testimonials, costs £100.
ENT surgeon Mr Patrick Axon said: 'I would like patients to know what I can offer them, the areas I cover, and for people to be able to comment on how they rate the experience.'
Where possible, patients themselves are asked for feedback and surgeons given the right to respond. It is hoped to build an independent referral system that will benefit surgeons, patients, GPs and private hospitals.
Anaesthetist Dr Basil Matta, who with surgeon Mr Andrew 'Fred' Robinson make up the six, said: 'It is difficult for new surgeons to gain a profile with GPs who are responsible for referrals and with the private hospital receptionists who frequently make the appointments. A service such as this will raise the surgeon's profile directly with potential clients and provides a useful source of referrals.'
SelectyourSurgeon Ltd. today announced an international marketing agreement expanding the potential private patient catchment area. Through an internaitonal marketing agreement consultant surgeons profiled on SelectyourSurgeon.com will benefit from increased private patient traffic. Please see details in below press release.
